Temporary art
In the heart of Berlin Mitte, on the disused Schlossplatz – probably the best location in the whole of Germany – something wonderful is happening. A unique project is underway which, though temporary, rovides Berlin’s art scenewith a spectacular centerpiece. Just as, like a thunderbolt, Peter Doig’s “White Canoe” became the icon of a new stillness in painting (when a Russian collector paid 7.6 million euros for the picture in London), the “White Cube”, in the neighboring and soon to be demolished Palast der Republik, with its exhibition “36x27x10”was the spark for this project. Berlin Mayor Wowereit is committed to creating a “lasting art gallery in Berlin”, which will continue to exist beyond his own lifetime.
