The Deutsches Theater is presenting starting Oct. 23 Dejan Dukowsky’s “Das Pulverfass (The Powder Keg“), starting Dec. 5 „Ein Traumspiel (A Dream Play“) by August Strindberg, in December Anton Chekhov’s “Die Möwe (The Seagull)”, starting February Christopher Hampton’s “Gefährliche Liebschaften (Les Liaisons Dangereuses)” and starting March Arthur Schnitzler’s “Der einsame Weg (The Lonely Way)”. The Kammerspiele will feature “Alice im Wunderland (Alice in Wonderland)” (starting Nov. 29), Shakespeare’s “Der Sturm (The Tempest)” (starting February). “Caligula” by Albert Camus as well as starting November Maxim Gorky’s “Nachtasyl (The Lower Depths)”.
The Staatsoper Unter den Linden is staging Peter Ruzicka’s new opera “Hölderlin” (premiere Nov. 16) with talented Dieter Henschel, the ballet premiere “Caravaggio” (Dec. 7) and Charles Gounod’s “Faust” (Feb. 15) with the outstanding singer Rene Pape as Mephistopheles. In addition, Sundays at 11 a.m.: “Barenboim Cycle” (Oct. 19, Mar. 8, Mar. 22). Superior performances at the Deutsche Oper: Richard Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” (starting Nov. 30), George Bizet’s “Carmen” (starting Mar. 8), Wagner’s “Der fliegende Holländer (Flying Dutchman)” (June 8) and the Richard Strauss Weeks with “Die Ägyptische Helena (The Egyptian Helen)” (starting Jan. 18) and “Ariadne auf Naxos (Ariadne on Naxos)” (starting Feb. 8). At the Komische Oper the opera “Robin Hood” will premiere on Nov. 2, “La Traviata” can be seen starting Nov. 23, Tchaikovsky’s “Pique Dame” starting Jan. 25. In the Philharmonie one star after another will perform with the Berlin Philharmonic, repeatedly resident conductor Sir Simon Rattle conducting: Alfred Brendel (Oct. 30 – Nov. 1), Maxim Vengerow (Nov. 5 - 8), Thomas Quasthoff (Dec. 29 - 31), Murray Perahia (Jan. 9 - 11), Lang Lang (Jan. 29 - 31), Mitsuko Ushida (Feb. 11 - 13) and Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Berlin Philhamonic (Mar. 5 - 7).
