Kiez* + Pub = Communication
The Kiez is where Berlin’s residents are at home. The pub stands for relaxing with a beer and, thanks to the natural disposition of Berliner, communication is also a big part of things. This togetherness and free-flowing talk was inspired, thanks to King Frederick of Prussia, by a touch of the spirit of French enlightenment. Which also holds true of the critically humorous spirit of the Berliner who, when together with other people, gladly express their freedom of thought, friendship and relaxation with a beer in one of any number of beer pubs. All of which is helped along by the essential character of the Kiez, where pubs can be found on almost every street corner.
* Kiez = the word for an urban district in Berlin: Quasi small-town cosmoses that vary greatly in character, with very specific cultural aspects and scenes.
